Introduction

Welcome to A West Highland Way the personal blog of our planned walk on the West Highland Way next June 2012. My name's Davie I'm 33 years old and  this walk is a personal goal of mine as I had a hip replacement in January this year and prior to that was pretty out of action for a year or two.  On the walk will be myself, my beautiful partner Jo, my two cousins Trev and Ant their respective partners Lorraine and Sophie,  my mates Graham and Ash and another couple called James and Jo. So with ten of us all wild camping on "the way" its an exciting time planning it all.  I'll blog as we make our plans and then after the walk I'll post how it went and the pictures of us tears, smiles and all..................

.....this is us in April three months after my hip replacement checking out the Highlands, we're on the way into Glencoe on this road, you may recognise it, we're in the layby where the Piper stands and does his stuff. Look at  this beautiful backdrop, he lives in his wee caravan just out of shot to the right during peak season. What a job eh?.....

  1. Hi Davie

Jumped here from your post on the walking forum.

I am re-walking the WHW with a group of friends in June. We last backpacked it in 2004 but stayed in B&B's, pubs etc - my camping days are long gone.

One word of warning though, beware the midges on Rannock Moor!

    1. Hi Bill. When are u walking the way? and over how many days? Perhaps we'll bump in, hopefully not literally :-) We start on Sat June 2nd and walk everyday till Sat 9th inclusive. We are camping and using a few hostels nr the end, we're using a travel co for the bags though. I'm really truly looking forward to it though. It's a real goal of mine now. I need to update my blog with a few extra prep walks we've done.

  2. Hi Davie

Although the dates have not yet been confirmed, I think we will be doing the WHW the week after you.

We will walk it over 7 days and possibly climb Ben Nevis on the 8th day. The baggage company at the time we last did it was Travel-Lite, although we backpacked it then.

It's a pity it's not the same week as you, as last time we met up with fellow walkers every night and had made some good friends over the week.

Anyway, I am sure you will enjoy it, it's a great walk, especially if the weather is kind.
